Governance Update: Public Drafts Now Admin-Controlled
To support better content governance, quality assurance, and operational clarity, Datapeople now restricts the ability to create Public Drafts to Admin users only.
This ensures that only vetted, high-signal content is shared broadly across your organization, while preserving flexibility for private collaboration.
What is a Public Draft?
A Public Draft is a job draft that’s automatically visible to everyone in your organization in the draft library, no share link needed.
This can be helpful when you want others to find and reuse a draft, but it can also create clutter when unused or incomplete drafts get shared by default.
What’s Changing?
- Only Admins can create or update Public Drafts.
- Non-admin users will no longer see the “Public Draft” toggle.
- Non-admin drafts are saved as private by default.
- Drafts can still be shared with individuals via share links (nothing changes there).
Why We Made This Change
Over time, we’ve seen shared libraries become difficult to navigate due to a growing number of incomplete or abandoned drafts - what we sometimes call draft graveyards.
By giving Admins more control, we’re making it easier to:
- Keep shared spaces clean and useful
- Ensure only vetted, intentional drafts are shared org-wide
- Reduce confusion about which drafts to reuse
This change is part of a broader set of improvements to content governance, including:
- Making Datapeople Anywhere drafts private by default
- Requiring Admins to define Flagship Jobs
What Happens to Existing Public Drafts?
Nothing changes automatically. Existing Public Drafts will remain shared across your org.
However, Admins can choose to apply this new policy retroactively, converting older public drafts into private ones while maintaining access for anyone who previously interacted with them. This is a one-time cleanup option and is entirely optional.
Can I Still Share a Draft with My Team?
Yes! You can still collaborate on drafts by generating a share link, this remains available to all users.
